About this Learning Opportunity
This archived webinar presents an overview of the Supreme Court of Canada (SCC) decision of Moore v. British Columbia (Education) and implications for decisions regarding the education and accommodation of students with special needs. The SCC affirmed a British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal ruling that a North Vancouver school district had failed to give special needs student, Jeffrey Moore, access to education opportunities thereby discriminating against him. Jeffrey was diagnosed with dyslexia. The Moores were awarded the costs associated with paying tuition to send Jeffrey to a private school that could meet his needs, up to and including Grade 12, half the costs incurred to transport him to and from the school, and $10,000 for injury to Jeffrey’s dignity, feelings and self-respect.
